A lot is demanded from you as an executive professional or entrepreneur, you have to develop a vision, make strategic choices, provide direction, set course, and have business sense. But also: motivating and enthusing people, getting your Supervisory Board on board, initiating change where necessary. Being in control and being able to give confidence. Keeping the balance between delegating and controlling, and you can only do all these if you are in ‘tip top’ competent shape.
What is Executive Coaching?
Executive coaching is a targeted, customised method for leadership and performance development for the executive or entrepreneur. An executive coach helps you assess your personal and professional objectives, strengths and weaknesses, and relationships and designs a unique service package to meet your need.
This will typically comprise of goal-setting and the development of a plan to achieve the goals.
Executive coaching is comprised primarily of one-on-one sessions between an executive coach and an executive. Due to the time constraints of most executives, the sessions can be done at the client’s premises, virtually or other mutually agreeable location.
Why should you engage an executive coach?
Executive coaching can be beneficial to anyone throughout their career. That said, the most common time for an executive to get an executive coach is once they are in middle management as they are aware of their strengths and weaknesses at this point.
The process of discovery helps you to understand what it is that is blocking your growth, promotion, effectiveness or results in the workplace or business (or even outside of the workplace). This is critical in ensuring that the focus of each executive coaching session is specific. It’s also important to note that an executive coach is someone that you can work with, and who will act as a mirror for you and who also challenges you to reach higher.
Typical Schedule
The typical time with your coach is 60 minutes once a week or fortnight, and to ensure that the 60 minutes is as productive as possible, most executive coaches recommend the executive block 15-30 minutes on their calendar both before and after the coaching session. This allows them to prepare some key items of focus for the session, and for them to reflect on the learnings once the session is over.
